Notes
"This is a haunting painting. I read in TIME magazine that
Nkosi Johnson, 12, a South African AIDS activist, had died.
He and his adopted mother spoke to the United Nations
several times and established homes to care for the mothers
and the children with AIDS. Two weeks before he died, he
wrote in his diary, "I wish I was well. Then I would be
able to grow up." In this painting, I left one bed empty.
I have no idea why that happened but I hope that means that
there will be a cure."
